A Daily Creative Practice with a useful Outcome

Thank-You Cards from my painting practice

It's not easy to be creative during busy times! But even if you can spare just a few minutes a day, you can make at least a little something. With the help of instructional books, it is possible to do a creative practice even during a phase of creative block, or while you are too tired to invent something or come up with your own ideas. Drawing and painting exercise books are really a good way to get a jump start if your mind draws a blank. Often, the exercises in these books are quite nice and very useful to learn a new skill. Also, I use the drawings and paintings to make greeting cards. So, not only do I get good practice, I am also making people happy with my art (hopefully).

These small paintings, most of them watercolor, some watercolor and ink pen, were done over the course of three weeks (yes, I am a slowpoke) and will be sent to my best clients at Decernis, the place where I have a really cool daytime job :-)

Watercolor and ink pen are a relatively quick and non-messy way to establish a daily painting practice, compared to more labor- and cleanup intensive art forms.

Three of the paintings are my very own creation, one is a hybrid between the instruction book and my own creation, and the other six are instruction book examples. I had one blooper that I had to throw out, that's not too bad. I've learned a lot during that practice, in addition, I can make ten people happy, and sailed through a creative dry spell, ready for tackling my next project (stay tuned!).
