Grapevine Anatomy II, Geek Edition - Illustration for Black Ankle Vineyards

Grapevine Anatomy II Geek Edition
The vitis vinifera plant has been cultivated for over 6,000 years in mostly temperate climates, producing many thousands of varieties of wines around the world. Good wine starts in the vineyard, so the knowledge of grape growing including grape selection, location, climate and farming practices are crucial. The winemaker can make great grapes into great wines, but cannot make mediocre grapes into a decent wine. Hence, one can never know enough around grape growing and viticulture! (And also, I am missing the fabulous grape juices from Germany. But that is a subject for another article).
This educational tool is another project for one of my favorite wineries in Maryland, Black Ankle Vineyards. "Grapevine Anatomy" covers a lot of detail of the grape plant. This "Geek Edition" includes separate detailed drawings of plant parts, such as buds, grape leaves and the structure of a berry and a grape cluster. Enjoy this educational journey into viticulture - the prints will be an insert into the winery's next "Boot Box" for their clients, and will help their staff to learn about grapes! Watercolor, ink pen, permanent ink and colored pencil on Arches hot-pressed 140 lbs (300 g/cm2) paper.
