A short stay on Assateague and Chincoteague, the barrier islands off the coast of Maryland and Virginia, gave me with a ton of ideas for sketching and painting, and filled me with admiration for the multitude of ecosystems that exist in a relatively small area. The difference between the Atlantic ocean and beach area, the desert-like dunes, the salt marsh in the bay area and the maritime forests is remarkable. We saw a ton of crabs in the shallow waters of the salt marsh. Unfortunately, they don't make good models for painting because they are moving way to fast ;-)

And, don't forget the famous wild horses! They visited the campground several times a day. 

We will have to come back here to explore, and to paint and draw more! Here are a couple of little sketchbook entries with watercolor from our lovely campground, one sketch shows the Atlantic  and the other one is a picture of the salt marsh on Forest Nature Trail.

Ein kurzer Aufenthalt in Assateague und Chincoteague, den Barriereinseln vor der Küste Marylands und Virginias, gab mir eine Menge Ideen zum Skizzieren und Malen und füllte mich mit Bewunderung für die Vielzahl von Ökosystemen, die auf relativ kleinem Raum existieren. Bemerkenswert ist der Unterschied zwischen Atlantik und Strand, den wüstenartigen Dünen, dem Salzwiesengebiet in der Bucht und den Meereswäldern. Wir haben eine Menge Krabben im seichten Wasser des Salzwiesengebietes entdeckt. Leider geben sie keine guten Modelle zum Malen ab, weil sie viel zu schnell herumwuseln ;-)

Und nicht zu vergessen sind die berühmten Wildpferde! Sie besuchten den Campingplatz mehrmals am Tag.

Wir müssen unbedingt hierher zurückkommen, um mehr zu entdecken, zu malen und zu zeichnen! Hier sind ein paar kleine Skizzenbucheinträge mit Aquarell von unserem schönen Campingplatz, eine Skizze zeigt den Atlantik und die andere ist ein Bild der Salzwiese am Forest Nature Trail.
