No visit to New Mexico is complete without a stop in Roswell! Whether you think aliens have crash-landed in 1947 in a farmer's field 75 miles away, or whether you think it was a hoax or something man-made, we were curious to see what was behind the hullaballoo. Roswell is a sleepy town with a population around 47,000, which was established in 1869 and started out with two buildings. A true growth spurt happened in the 1890s, when an aquifer was discovered, and with the arrival of the Pecos Valley Railroad. Of course we visited the UFO museum, luckily we didn't get beamed up, and had a wonderful Mexican dinner at one of the many restaurants. The city lives on tourism, mostly from folks curious about the UFO landing. Roswell is also the location of one of the world's largest mozzarella factories (who knew)? And did you know Demi Moore and Roy Rogers were born in Roswell, and so was Mike E. Smith, Hall of Fame Jockey.

Möglich, dass Außerirdische 1947 auf einem 75 Meilen entfernten Feld eines Bauern abgestürzt sind, oder dass es sich um einen Scherz oder etwas von Menschenhand gemachtes handelt, wir waren neugierig, was sich hinter dem Hullaballoo verbirgt. Roswell ist eine verschlafene Stadt mit rund 47.000 Einwohnern, die 1869 gegründet wurde und mit zwei Gebäuden begann. Ein wahrer Wachstumsschub fand in den 1890er Jahren statt, als eine Grundwasserader entdeckt wurde, und ausserdem die Ankunft der Pecos Valley Eisenbahnlinie. Natürlich besuchten wir das UFO-Museum, wurden zum Glück nicht hochgebeamt und genossen ein wunderbares mexikanisches Abendessen in einem der vielen Restaurants. Die Stadt lebt vom Tourismus, hauptsächlich von Leuten, die neugierig auf die UFO-Landung sind. Roswell ist auch der Standort einer der größten Mozzarella-Fabriken der Welt (wer hätte das gedacht)? Und Demi Moore und Roy Rogers wurden in Roswell geboren, ebenso Mike E. Smith, Hall of Fame Jockey.
