Say Thank You To Your Mycelium

Thanksgiving – many of us are counting their blessings and are saying Thanks to loved ones and friends. How about extending the Thank Yous to your not so obvious and sometimes invisible helpers?

You possibly know that I am an avid sustainable gardener and I am taking good care of the health of my garden soil. You cannot avoid to stumble across the mycelium, which is a network of filaments of fungi that is making up the main body of a fungus. In some species, it develops into visible structures, such as molds or mushrooms. Mycorrhizae are beneficial fungi that grow on or inside the roots of plants. They are helping the plants grow and prosper by bringing in nutrients and water.

Often, we forget that many less visible helpers make our days, our work, and our family life run smoothly. So, say Thanks to the Mycelium – your spouse who does the dishes every night, your admin who deals with the daily chaos at the office, the grocery worker, the nurse who takes care of your ailing parent, and many more.

Enjoy some practice sketches from my garden notebook of the visible part of the mycelium. And have a wonderful time with your loved ones, whether near or far, whether you are celebrating Thanksgiving or not.
