Hot Off The Press Prints

Spring Flowers
My friend from Germany is the Master Of Linocuts and I am very pleased to show her work today. Some of you may remember linocuts aka linoleum cuts from art lessons in school. Linoleum has been around since 1855 and is a flexible material usually used for floor coverings, made from linseed oil, pine resin, ground cork dust, sawdust and mineral fillers on a canvas or burlap backing. It is relatively easy to cut (compared to wood or metal) into a relief for print making.
The artist can achieve not only large blocks of surface that yield bold prints, but also surprisingly fine detail (with some experience and steady hands). Water-based ink is added to the relief, and the image can be printed on paper by hand or with a printing press. Multi-color prints, which are way more challenging, can be achieved with a number of reliefs representing a different area of the print.
